The beginning is now.

As a first-time mom in the midst of taking a break from the corporate world,  I'm not comfortable with the idea of staying at home and not having a 'job'.   I loved working.  Is that a shocker?  Many seem to relish in not going back to work and yet, I miss it.  I miss being me and contributing something out there beyond my family.   Raising my child is a full-time job, you will get no argument there, but I still crave that something more.

It began with small talk at a play date about how easy it was to make a tutu.   Right...easy.  I am not a crafter. Not. A. Crafter.  But they got my wheels turning...maybe I could do that?  So my A-type personality went into overdrive and my husband found me glued to YouTube that night lost in the land of tutorials.  It did seem easy.  It couldn't be; I had to make one.  I made my way to the foreign land they call JoAnn Fabrics and b-lined for the tulle aisle.  Tulle and ribbon, check.  On to the main event. I hunkered down on the living room floor and hour later I had a rockstar caliber tutu that I'd wear if it fit me.  This was easy and I could be good at it.   Maybe I am a crafter, I was just too scared to try before.  So...what else can I try to make?  A lot. Tutorial land is vast.  There is a tutorial for everything.  Seriously, everything.

But the business of tutus?  Maybe not.  A good business plan involves research and take a look...tutus are a big thing.  As a newbie I don't think I'd like to jump into that pit.  A niche is what I need so that I can provide a specialized, amazing product that I also like creating.  And then it hit me.  I tried button art when I was in full scale nursery decorating mode and it turned out amazing.  I think I did it the hardest way possible (i.e. glue dots, fabric and glass frames) but I see the fixes to be had.  And to my surprise button art is not the booming business of tulle, barrettes and bows.  There are a few amazingly gifted crafters out there, but certainly space for my point of view.

And so the stage is set.  Still just an idea, but one that brings me joy, provides a vision and allows me to continue to be an amazing mommy, while contributing just a little bit more.  The beginning is now.
